 The state committee for the nations and religions affairs triggers carrying out of the forum dedicated to the equality of the minority groups regardless of the race, religion or language.

 

Kiev – the Council of the Ukrainian Non-governmental associations of the State committee for the nation and religion-related issues proposes to carry out the Forum of the minority groups of Ukraine in Kiev. According to the data of the Ukrainian population cense of the year 2001, there are 37,5 millions of Ukrainians (which makes 77,8% of the whole population) and 10,9 millions (which is 22.2%) of representatives of more than 130 other nations. This means that every fifth person in Ukraine is one of the minority groups.

The head of the Council of the Ukrainian Non-governmental associations of the State committee for the nation and religion-related issues, the Head of the Greek Communities of Ukraine Alexandra Protsenko considers that the state of Ukraine is working at creating the favorable conditions for satisfying the cultural, educating and ethnic-linguistic demands of the minority groups and assists in the realization of the principle of equality of the rights and freedoms of people and citizens regardless of their nationality, race, religion, language, or any other feature according to the national and international legislations. According to A. Protsenko’s words, there are about 1300 non-governmental organizations of the minority groups in
Ukraine. Most of them cooperate with the official government bodies, take an active part in political and cultural life of Ukraine, protect rights and take care of the national and cultural development of their nations. In order to improve the image of Ukraine as a democratic state that is continuously putting into practice the policy of maintaining the rights and freedoms of the minority groups, the Council of the Ukrainian Non-governmental associations of the State committee for the nation and religion-related issues suggests: 

— completing the minority groups organizations’ discussion the bills like “About the concept of the start ethno-national politics in Ukraine”, “About the languages”, “About the national and cultural autonomy”, “About the resumption of rights of the persons, who were forcibly displaced because of their nationality” and discussing the new version of the laws “About the minority groups in Ukraine” and “About the associations of the citizens”; 

— according to the significant input of people of different nationalities into the preserving of the social and political stability, consolidation of international peace and harmony in the Ukrainian society, it is suggested to have a celebration of the Day of Nationalities in Ukraine; 

— carrying out a Forum of the minority groups of Ukraine in Kiev, September 2008, in order to consolidate the representatives of different nationalities; 

— Promoting the organization the centers of the cultural and educational and scientific-methodical work  both in Kiev and in the central cities of the regions. The aim of the centers’ activity is to consolidate and preserving the ethnic minority groups, to popularize of the cultural variety and to breed the tolerant attitude to the people of other nationalities among the youth.
